Welcome to the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Board Webpage
The Board of School Trustees of the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation serves both Henry and Rush Counties in Indiana with the mission of providing leadership and oversight for K–12 education in our community. The Board governs our district, which encompasses approximately 1,050 students across three schools—Knightstown Elementary (Pre-K–3), Knightstown Intermediate (grades 4–8), and Knightstown High School (grades 9–12)
The Charles A. Beard Memorial Schools Board of Trustees meets regularly on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Transportation and Conference Center, and begin at 7:00 PM unless otherwise stated.

Policy & Governance: Establishes district-wide policies, approves budgets, and ensures compliance with state regulations.

Labor & Benefits Oversight: Negotiates and approves master agreements with the teachers’ association, covering key areas like salary scales, benefits, leave policies, insurance plans, retirement provisions, and more.

Educational Quality & Accountability: Ensures the district offers Honors and Advanced Placement courses (e.g., AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry), as well as dual-credit and career-program opportunities for student advancement.

Teacher Development: Over 99% of teachers have 3+ years’ experience and benefit from negotiated raises, performance stipends, and involvement in a 403(b) plan, VEBA contributions, healthcare, retirement, and disability coverage .

Collaborative Governance: Board meetings include public hearings (e.g., a hearing held on Sept 15, 2023) and discussions of tentative agreements, ensuring transparent decision-making.
